About Krister Eide
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, among old-growth forests and the volcanic peaks of the Cascade Range and Olympic Peninsula, but my grandfather was born in Montana and my family on both sides had respect and love of the land and wildlife.
I live near a mosaic of wildlife habitats, where bald eagles and deer are part of the everyday landscape and close observation is a daily practice.
Much of my early drawing was self-taught, shaped by time outdoors and sustained looking. I later studied with artists including Michael Orwick and Robert Caldwell, and earned a BFA in Illustration from the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in Denver.
While in college, I also worked at a wildlife rehabilitation center, caring for large raptors such as bald eagles, owls, and hawks, as well as smaller birds and mammals helped develop a closer respect and understanding of conservation.
I am an active member of conservation groups such as the Artists for Conservation, the Audubon Society, and the Mountaineers. Through my artwork, I want to share some of the stories of these animals, as well as inspire them, and want to learn more.
I am a Signature Artist of Puget Sound Group of Northwest Artists, a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators Northwest, and an Associate Member of Artists for Conservation, Oil Painters of America, and American Impressionist Society.
